Mr. Crabtree, the father of young Norah Crabtree in my novel Lady Riot, is an alcoholic. It’s a sad situation, especially for Norah and anyone who has experienced an alcoholic parent. I do not, so I’ve had to do a bit of research on specific terminology and phrases. I wanted to share a website I came across. Until this week, I had no clue there were so many words for “being drunk.”
I wish I could say it has been torture bringing Mr. Crabtree to life, but it has been quite the opposite. He is a misogynistic asshole, so I have rather enjoyed putting him into unpleasant situations and painting him as a puke-worthy protagonist. I can’t wait to share him with the world, but until then, enjoy this drunken terminology.
My personal favorites are: "juiced up," "swacked," and "blotto."
